[edit] Plot
Cartman has made a hobby of getting Butters to spend the night and taking degrading photos of him as he sleeps, but when he shows Stan, Kenny and Kyle a photo of him with Butters' penis in his mouth, he finds out that the photo is actually more degrading of himself, than of Butters.
Kyle misleads Cartman into thinking that if he takes a photo of himself with his penis in Butters' mouth instead, it would "reverse the gay-polarity." Butters' dad walks in on them and believing Butters is "bi-curious", he sends his son to a conversion therapy camp run by Christians.
At the de-gayification camp, the boys are miserable and suicide is common. Butters befriends his roommate and accountabili-buddy, Bradley, and when camp authorities find Bradley's male underwear catalog, they are both punished. Butters talks Bradley out of jumping off of a bridge, and confronts the camp's intolerance of homosexuality. Throughout all of this, Butters never even realizes that homosexuality is the issue, thinking he was punished for simply being "confused", which he readily admits to. Seeing that Butters has a point, his father admits he's bi-curious too and that he likes it. And at that rate, Butters and his father both laugh at it.
Meanwhile, Cartman believes Kyle has stolen the photo of him with Butters' penis in his mouth, and, to prevent Kyle from having the satisfaction of showing it off, Cartman shows the photo to the entire class himself, attempting to pass it off as an artistic statement against the War In Iraq, just before discovering that Kyle never had the photo at all and it was under his desk at home all along, thanks to a message sent by Cartman's mother read by Mr. Mackey. The episode ends with Cartman saying "Lame".
[edit] Cultural references
- The song Butters is humming when he is playing with his toys before Cartman enters his room, is "Help Me" by Joni Mitchell.
- Bradley's physical appearance and mannerisms resemble Brad Dourif as Billy Bibbit from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Billy commits suicide, as Bradley nearly does.
- The music played when Butters goes to the camp is actually the sample played in the Heroes of Might and Magic III computer game when a new week starts. Many other audio samples from this game have been used in South Park episodes.
- The boys play a board game called Living, a spoof of the game Life.
