[edit] Fictional character history

Carrie is the daughter of Roman Brady and Anna Fredericks. Her mother left Roman while pregnant with Carrie; Roman didn't know his daughter existed until Anna returned with a four-year-old Carrie and left the girl in her father's care.

As a child, Carrie was at one point kidnapped and held captive by Stefano DiMera, who has kidnapped many members of the Brady family at various points. She also nearly drowned during a storm and fell into a coma after a car crash.

When Austin Reed moved to Salem, Carrie was attracted to him and also became the roommate and close friend of Austin's sister, Billie Reed. Carrie and Austin began dating, but Austin's career as a prizefighter caused some strain in their relationship. Carrie become a finalist in Bella magazine's "Face of the 90’s" modeling competition. When Austin failed to throw a fight, C'arrie became the victim of an a'cid attack intended for him. The incident caused serious scarring to her face. Her father Roman, who did not like Austin, told Carrie that if she would break up with him, he would not pursue any charges against Austin stemming from his involvement with the underworld of boxing. Carrie also felt that Austin would no longer love her, due to her scars. As a result of both factors, Carrie pushed Austin out of her life. This gave her sister Sami, who had developed a crush on Austin before learning that he was already involved with her sister, an opportunity to pursue a relationship with him.

Sami teamed up with Lucas Roberts, Austin's half-brother who was obsessed with Carrie, to keep Austin and Carrie from reuniting. Meanwhile, Carrie had successful plastic surgery on her face and was willing to give her and Austin another chance. During a romantic ski weekend, Carrie lost her virginity to Austin, after almost being raped by Alan, who went on to rape Sami instead.

Sami continued to pursue Austin and went so far as to drug and rape Austin, making him believe she was Carrie. Nevertheless, Carrie and Austin stayed together and began planning their wedding. Sami was able to stop the ceremony by revealing that she was pregnant with Austin’s child. At the time, Sami believed that Austin was the father, but she later learned that Lucas was the true father; she continued to conceal the truth for several years. Austin initially chose to build a life with Sami and baby Will instead of marrying Carrie. However, Austin continued to be in love with Carrie, and ultimately decided to be with her again after all. Unfortunately, the kidnapping of Will by Sami's deranged neighbor caused a situation where Sami and Austin, in order to regain custody of Will from the French couple to whom he had been sold, were forced to marry in France to satisfy the authorities there.

Carrie, meanwhile, became good friends with Dr. Mike Horton. When Austin and Sami planned an American wedding, Carrie was able to interrupt the ceremony by revealing that Lucas was Will's father. Carrie punched Sami in the face and Austin married Carrie instead.

Later, Carrie cheated on Austin with Mike and Austin left Salem in the aftermath of the affair. Carrie accepted Mike's marriage proposal, and they moved to Israel to be close to Mike's son Jeremy.

Carrie recently returned to town and was surprised to see Austin home as well. Although things looked positive for Austin and Carrie's future, her sister, Sami saw otherwise and once again schemed to break them apart. First she was able to have Austin and his company buy out Carrie's company, HighStyle, with no knowledge that Carrie had any association with the small business. Carrie, feeling betrayed, began growing closer to Austin's half brother, Lucus Roberts. To ensure that Carrie would no longer want to be with Austin, Sami was also able to blackmail Dr. Lexie Carver after finding out about Lexie's affair with young detective Tek Kramer. Lexie thought up of a bogus story to tell Carrie, which was that Austin and Carrie shared rare genetic markers and if they ever had children, the child would suffer extreme birth defects that could result in death.

Carrie then moved on romantically with Lucas, and even became engaged. She soon believed she was pregnant thanks to a false pregnancy test, leading for her and Lucas to rush their wedding date. When Carrie found out there was no baby, and had a "hysterical pregnancy", she was distraught and cheated on Lucas with Austin, her true love who was also engaged to her sister Sami at the time, on the roof of their apartment building.

As Austin recently did not marry Sami, Carrie has shown signs of relief. Prior to the ceremony she expressed to Marlena that she was still in love with Austin, and admitted to not being in love with Lucas. After secretly meeting with Austin to make love and comfort one another, Lucas came to the roof and caught her kissing Austin. After a bitter tirade on Lucas' part, Carrie was kicked out of their apartment. Soon after, Carrie handed Lucas annulment papers and Lucas was more than willing to sign them in order to immediately get Carrie out of his life. However, minutes later, the Gloved Hand slid a note under Sami's apartment door and Lucas, Carrie and Austin discovered the truth behind Sami's blackmailing of Lexie. After Sami finally admitted the truth about her misdeeds, a furious Carrie attacked her. The two sisters fought each other and when they stopped, Carrie swore to her half-sister that she will tell everyone of what she did.

Later, Carrie ran into Lexie and revealed to her that she knows the truth behind Sami's blackmail. Although Lexie tried to plea her case, Carrie didn't care and promised to pay Lexie back by reporting her to the hospital board and the AMA. After showing up with Dr. Finch to keep her promise, Lexie was immediately fired and Carrie felt that her stay in Salem was nearly complete. During dinner, Austin suggested that they move to Switzerland, where he can work at the Mythic Communications division there and Carrie can reclaim Highstyle. Carrie agreed on one condition--that they get married first. The two immediately went to the Justice of the Peace with their signed marriage licenses and got married (but not before getting briefly interrupted by a drunk Sami and Carrie disowning her). After saying their goodbyes to John, Kate, Marlena and Roman, Austin and Carrie took a plane and left Salem.
