Carreras, Durango

Carreras is a small town located in the Mexican state of Durango. The town is part of the municipio (municipality) of Tepehuanes. Carreras has a small population of mostly retired people, with the tourism during the summer and the winter. Tourist mostly consist of the children of migrant parents from the u.s. mostly in California, Nevada, Illinois, and Virginia.
Driving ATV's is the enjoyable past time during most of the day with the occasional Fair in the city of Tepehuanes at night. Occasionally the town hosts various "Coleaderas" (Rodeos) In the towns "Lienzo Charro".
This Past Auguost 2007 the governor of the state of Durango visited the town of Carreras, in honor of the recently paving of the towns main Streets, and in his honor the town hosted a "Coleadera" (rodeo).
