Carpe Noctem

Carpe Noctem was a goth sub-culture magazine that was edited by Thom and Catia Carnell (with Thom credited as just 'Carnell') and published in the 1990s. It was best known for having printed Jhonen Vasquez's Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comic in short strips from August 1995 to January 1997, prior to JTHM's being picked up by Slave Labor Graphics. It contained interviews with notable authors, artists and musicians such as Clive Barker, David Schow, Neil Gaiman, Alex Ross, Brom, Cliff Nielsen, Frank Miller, Joe Jusko, Robert Rodriguez, Tom Savini, Viggo Mortensen, Criss Angel, Gino Vannelli, Gwar, Human Drama, Sam Rosenthal, Jhonen Vasquez, Bob Wilkins, and Ronnie James Dio.

It is no longer in publication, and its Web site has ceased to exist.

Thom Carnell is currently writing for Fangoria magazine and is reportedly working on a novel entitled, No Flesh Shall Be Spared. His website is http://www.nofleshshallbespared.com.

Carpe Noctem's name is a pun on the Latin expression carpe diem ("seize the day"; literally "pluck the day") that intended to mean "seize the night."
