"Carolyna" is a song by Melanie C, and is the third single from her fourth studio LP, This Time. Written by Chisholm herself, Steve Mac and Paul Gendler — her long-time guitarist since 1997 and the very first Spice Girls shows — it is one of the album's up-tempo tracks. Produced by Steve Mac, "Carolyna" is a song about a girl who has had a rough start in life and needs to escape to find freedom and happiness.
The single peaked at number forty-nine in the UK Singles Chart. It received low promotion in the UK due the fact it was released the same week when the Spice Girls announced their reunion. It was more successful in Germany and in Italy where it was a Top 20 hit. Eventually Carolyna became a radio hit in some parts of Europe.
In February of 2008 song and it's video was put on the playlist of Much More Music and added to MTV's website in Canada. The song charted at #1 on it's first week in Much More Music singles Top 10. According to EMI Music Canada, "Carolyna" is the first single for the Canadian release of the album This Time in April 2008.
