Carolyn Kawasaki (b. 25th May 1962), better known as Caiya (カイヤ), is a Chicago born American gaijin tarento, that is, a foreign celebrity active in Japan. Kawasaki was active as a model in the 80's, working in the United States, Europe and Japan. In 1990 she married Mayo Kawasaki, a Japanese celebrity. However, she has been separated from her husband since pictures of his philandering were published in a paparazzi tabloid. Her claim to fame on Japanese television comes from her playing off the stereotypical American woman from the Japanese point of view in which they are thought of as loud, domineering, and materialistic. She has appeared in television shows such as Waratte Iitomo and Ninja Warrior among others.
