[edit] Personal life
Strong was born in Liverpool in 1963, the youngest of seven children, to Terence (Captain, Royal Artillery) and Jeanne (Queen Alexandra's Nurses and later Matron of Sir Alfred Jones Memorial Hospital, Liverpool). She attended Notre Dame Preparatory and High School, Woolton, and the McKee School of Dance Drama and Education, Allerton. She gained her Joint Honours Degree in English Literature and Drama from the University of London and went on to Postgraduate Studies at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She is married to director and writer Adrian Bean and they have twin boys Gabriel and Daniel.
Her first job after graduating was a USA tour with the British-American Theatre Institute of Santa Fe performing Under Milk Wood, and she has since worked extensively in Theatre, Radio and Television. She joined the cast of Emmerdale as Melanie Doland in August 2007.

She played the regular character of Margaret-Ann in the BBC six-part comedy series Thin Ice, and the regular character of Margaret in ITV's six part wartime drama Island at War. ITV Drama Premieres include Trust (DCI Sarah Miller), My Fragile Heart (Claire Macavoy), Prime Suspect IV (DC Cathy Cooper) and Reversals (Emma Jones). She was also in the BBC2 Drama Documentary series Trial By Jury playing the lead character of Sally Jones.
Guest leads include HOLBY CITY, A&E, WHERE THE HEART IS, HEARTBEAT and DOCTORS. Other drama credits include: CLOCKING OFF, VINCENT, WIRE IN THE BLOOD, NEW STREET LAW, WATERLOO ROAD, PEAK PRACTICE, SOLDIER SOLDIER, THE BILL, MERSEYBEAT, 24/7, CORONATION STREET, BROOKSIDE and SWEET MEDICINE.
Comedy credits include: I'm With Stupid, At Home With the Braithwaites, Drop the Dead Donkey, No Job For a Lady, Keeping Up Appearances, The Upper Hand, and Ain't Misbehavin'.

She was a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company from 1996, based at Broadcasting House, London. Over the years she has played in more than 40 productions, including Death of a Salesman, The Proust Screenplay, Arms and the Man, Bomber, People Like Us and The Nuremberg Trials, with leads in LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS, THE PRIESTHOLE, MY WAY, OUT BY CHRISTMAS, GO FOR THE GRAIL, DANGEROUS INFLUENCES and Georgy in the six part adaptation of GEORGY GIRL, for which she was nominated Best New Actress (Radio Comedy) Radio Times Awards.
