Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is a large, public, not for profit hospital located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The hospital was organized in 1940 as Charlotte Memorial Hospital on Blythe Boulevard in the Dilworth neighborhood. Since that time, the hospital has undergone several major expansions to include 17 buildings and bring bed capacity to 861 beds. Today CMC is the flagship of Carolinas Healthcare System, one of the largest public nonprofit healthcare systems in the United States.
In 2007, the multistory Levine Children's Hospital was completed and opened. Making it the largest children's hospital between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, Georgia.
