[edit] History

An earlier attempt at an indoor football team called the Carolina Fuel slated to play in that arena did not materialize. However, the Carolina Speed begins its second season shortly. The name "Carolina Speed" comes from the winning name of a contest held at the Cabarrus County fair, as well as paying tribute to North Carolina's NASCAR heritage.
