Carola Christina Liemola (March 23, 1941 — November 12th, 1997), professionally known as Carola, was a Finnish singer. She was born in Helsinki as Carola Christina Standertskjöld. From a very young age she took interest in learning other languages, and this knowledge gave her the ability to release singles and perform in many languages including Spanish, French, German, and English. Her pop songs were mostly infuenced by schlager, jazz, blues, soul and folk music. Carola's first single was a Jewish folk song, Hava nagilah, 1963. She released the german single "Warum Willst Du Das Alles Vergessen" in 1965.
In the sixties and seventies, she recorded the songs "Kielletyt leikit", "Rakkauden jälkeen", "Jerusalem", "Herrojen kanssa pellon laidassa" and "Mä lähden stadiin". She also covered 3 winning songs from the Eurovision song contest ("La La La" [1968], "Un Banc Un Arbre Une Rue" [1971], "Apres Toi" [1972]) Carola died of Alzheimer's disease in Kirkkonummi.
In 2004, an album of two separate 1966 performances by Carola was released for the first time on CD. "Carola and The Heikki Sarmanto Trio" features 10 songs recorded at YLE (Finland's Broadcasting Company) and 4 others recorded live.
