Carnodon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Carnodon is a fictional mammalian creature in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, seen in Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn trilogy of books and referenced elsewhere. It has not been produced by Games Workshop as a model nor appeared in any army and thus far exists only as a potential custom made model or in fiction. Carnodons are fierce and deadly predators, one easily capable of bringing down a human and able to resist blades or even more advanced weaponry due to its thick hide.
A Carnodon is much like a smilodon in shape and build, though on a significantly larger scale. One seen in the Eisenhorn books is said to be about 6 metres (20 feet) long from snout to tail. It weighs 900 kilograms (nearly 2000 pounds). Like other big carnivorous cats they possess sharp claws and teeth, powerful muscles and also tusks resembling those of a sabre-toothed tiger. They are also striped much like modern day tigers.
Its name is composed of carne meaning 'flesh' and odon meaning 'tooth', using a combination of Latinised words to create a pseudo scientific term. Little else is known about them, though they are not considered obscure within the fictional universe, but little has been said of them.
