Carnmenellis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hill in Cornwall, which is 252 metres above sea level 828 (feet). Carnmenellis is west of the town of Redruth, and north of Helston.

Carnmenellis is one of the Marilyn hills.

On the top of the hill is a microwave transmitting and receiving tower, used for telephone and computer connections as well as other data and television and radio broadcasting links. It is maintained by BT.

A number of iron age fortifications surround the hill, but little archaeological research has been done on the site.

There is no public right of way across the summit, and the surrounding land is all private farmland.

There is a nearby village, sometimes referred to as Carmenellis, but on OS maps it is shown as Penmarth.
