Carmen Saeculare

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carmen Saeculare (Latin for "Secular Hymn" - "Song of the Ages"), sometimes known as the Carmen for short, is a hymn written by the poet Horace. It was commissioned by the Roman emperor Augustus in 17 BC. The mythological and religious odes propose the restoration of the tradition, the glorification of the gods: Jupiter, Diana, Venus.
