Carmelites of Mary Immaculate

The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate is an Eastern Catholic religious order for men. It belongs to the Syro-Malabar Church. It was the first such religious order within India. The first monastery of the order was established on May 11, 1831 in Mannanam, Kerala, India and quickly grew. The order was founded by Palackal Thoma Malpan, Father Thomas Porukara and Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara.

It is dedicated to the renewal of church life by the training of priests, the missions, the education of the youth, and social service.

In the year March 2007 the community counted 3226 members (7 bishops; 1510 priests; 40 brothers; 575 students of philosophy and theology; 149 novices; 351 candidates) in 13 provinces and around 300 religious houses.
