Carmel High School (Carmel, California)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carmel High School is a school of 750 students and 50-plus faculty members, situated just outside of the city of Carmel, California. Built in 1940, CHS is known for its lovely view of the Santa Lucia Mountains with a peek of Point Lobos and the Pacific Ocean. It shares a cross town rivalry with Pacific Grove High School, where every year the two teams battle for a bronze shoe during "The Shoe Game". Pacific Grove presently has the upper hand in this rivalry, defeating Carmel for the football, basketball, and baseball league championships in the 2007-2008 school year. The school's mascot is the Padre which pays homage to the peninsula's history with the Spanish missionaries.

The Carmel High School Library has about 16,000 volumes and is equipped with wireless communication.

The School has a team that participates in the FIRST Robotics Competition as of 2006: The Team 2035 AKA The Robo-Rockin' Bots, which is headed by teachers Paul McFarlin, Colin Matheson, and Tom Clifford, had a highly successful rookie year and placed second in the U.C. Davis Regional Competition. Their team mascot is a "Rocking Robot", portrayed in their logo as a robotic version of the AC/DC guitarist Angus Young.

The current principal is Karl Pallastrini.
