Carly Flynn (née Kirkwood) is a New Zealand journalist, and host of TV3's morning news and information show, Sunrise.

Born and raised in Taupo, New Zealand, where her father was head of English at a local college, Carly studied media arts in the Waikato where she majored in journalism. She began her career in print journalism for the Herald community group newspapers before working for Counties Manukau radio station then reporting, presenting and producing for Prime TV’s Waikato and Bay of Plenty regional news.

Carly has also travelled extensively, enjoying a stint living and working in Dublin where she worked for local radio station Newstalk 106 as well as You're A Star, an Irish pop star programme, before returning to New Zealand where she began as a reporter for 3 News.

On March 14, 2005, Carly took over as the presenter on TV3's highly successful, late-night news programme Nightline, following in the foot steps of long-time presenter Carolyn Robinson. She left this role on September 7, 2007 in preparation for her move to TV3's upcomfing breakfast show, Sunrise.

Carly's first experience with TV3 was when she was only 16 years old. "When I was 16 I was a work experience student at TV3 where I worked with Hilary Barry and from that moment on I knew I wanted to be a TV reporter," says Carly. "Hilary was an amazing role model for me and I still can’t quite believe that over a decade later I’m following in her footsteps and taking on my own presenting role.

"It’s an amazing opportunity for me to become the presenter of one of TV3's most successful news shows and I intend on giving the job everything I’ve got.

"Ever since I did my first journalism work experience with TV3 and even after working around New Zealand and the world, I always knew I wanted to be a TV3 girl. I love the network and have really enjoyed my time reporting for 3 News. Of course I’m also delighted to be working alongside Hilary Barry again who was one of the first to congratulate me on my new role."

As well as presenting Nightline, Carly also does some reporting for the show and says she is delighted to still have the opportunity to get out into the field and continue her passion for first-hand journalism.

Carly Flynn previously presented NZ News Week, a half-hour weekly wrap of New Zealand's top news stories, produced by TV3 for Sky News Australia and the TV3 website, before this was discontinued in early 2007.

In 2005, Carly was nominated in the Eating Media Lunch Awards in the category "Most Intriguing Lips" for a pronunciation on Nightline.

She was married on Sunday, October 22, 2006.
