Carlos Vergara is a television news anchor and reporter born to Hernando and Mariella Vergara. Brother Eduardo Vergara is a computer engineer lioving in New Jersey/New York and married to Diana Valencia. Carlos speaks, reads, writes, and translates Spanish fluently. Carlos works at WTVJ, an NBC television station in Miami FL, where he reports on daily news events in South Florida. He has worked in other U.S. television markets including Bakersfield CA, Corpus Christi TX, and Albany GA, where he covered the disastrous 500 year floods. But Carlos is not limited to stateside reports. Having worked two US/Mexico border markets in his career, he's gained access to exclusive illegal immigration and illicit drug trade stories. Carlos has interviewed presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter. Also, United States Senators John McCain (AZ) and Jon Kyle (AZ), Joe Leiberman CT, as well as other major politicos like Bush Campaign Chairman Ken Mehlman, Chief political adviser Karl Rove, Jesse Jackson, former HUD secretary and San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros, former Governors James Florio(NJ), Zell Miller (GA), Bill Richardson (NM)and Janet Napolitano (AZ). Among his most memorable interviews, together with his wife, a backstage Las Vegas chat with Colombian pop sensation Juanes in 2005, and with California Congressman Sonny Bono two weeks before his tragic skiing death. Carlos has been asked to testify at two separate murder trials. In both instances,confessions were made to him on camera. Carlos has volunteered his free time to various organizations including reading councils, the American Heart Association, and Instituto de Cultura Hispanica in Corpus Christi, where he is an honorable lifetime member of the board. The board graciously honored him with a special presentation in 2002, when they announced September 26th as Carlos Vergara Day in Corpus Christi.
