Carlos Manzano is the first Colombian-American elected to office in New York State. He was elected as Democratic State Committeman on the Westside of Manhattan and served in that post from 1994 to 2007.
Manzano has been involved in Democratic Party politics for two decades. He became the first Latino president of the McManus Democratic Association in the Clinton (Hell's Kitchen) neighborhood.
He ran unsuccessfully for the City Council in 1999, coming in second place in a field of four candidates. In 2005, he ran unsuccessfully for Manhattan Borough President. He emphasized preparedness in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. In the race, he received the endorsements of former New York schools chancellor Frank Macchiarola, Sopranos star Michael Imperioli, and former New York Giants football coach Allie Sherman.
He is now the Executive Director of Mayor Bloomberg's Latin Media and Entertainment Commission.
He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from New York University (NYU) and is now pursuing a second Master's degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications also at NYU. He is a certified Project Management Professional.
