Carlos Domingomes

Carlos Domingomes (born Carlos Alberto Monteiro Domingues Gomes, May 7, 1980 in Le Puy-en-Velay, Clermont-Ferrand, France. ) Domingomes is a Portuguese film director. He is also a professor in the areas of cinema, video, photography, and sound at ESAAA (Escola Secundária Artística António Arroio) in Lisbon. At the same time he develops several works in the areas of photography, painting, cyberart, screenplay and visual arts.

He graduated in Cinema at the ESTC (Portuguese School of Theater and Cinema). In 2002 he shot his first medium-film titled Lá Em Cima Bem Perto Do Céu (Up There, Close to Heaven), a "fiction-documentary" film exercise that was shot in the Portuguese countryside, with octogenarian actors. Movie-key that earned several national awards and the acquisition for display at RTP (Portuguese public broadcasting corporation).

In his activity as director, author, or freelance, he explores collaborations with other directors, designers, artists, architects, musicians and photographers, operating in various aspects of artistic creation.

He was a movie critic at the Portuguese newspaper NovaGuarda with the slogan "Go to the Movies!" He made films, documentaries, institutional and advertisements.

He also won several awards: Equally Different - Spot Winner of the 1st Prize at the Grand Prix Europe Festival in Berlin, Germany, 2007; 5 F's - 5 films with Acquisition Award by City of Guarda and launch of a DVD edition in 2005; Up There, Close to Heaven winning film of 1st Prize of the ESAAA Third Festival, Honour Mention at Ovarvídeo in 2003 and acquisition award and display at the RTP (Portuguese public broadcasting corporation); City on the Move - film that won the 3rd VideoRun Award in Lisbon, and was displayed in the TV Chanel SIC Radical in 2003.

Carlos Domingomes never defended a commercial cinema or an auteur cinema. He always defended an intelligent cinema.
