Carlos Batts

Carlos Batts is a photographer, filmmaker, and curator from Baltimore, Maryland. His coffee table books of art and photography include Wild Skin [1], Crazy Sexy Hollywood [2], and American Gothic [3]. His independent films include American Gothic [4], as well as the forthcoming films Voluptuous Life (set for release by UnitShifter Films and Bad Apple Video on October 30, 2007) and Young Hollywood (set for release by UnitShifter Films and Bad Apple Video in Winter 2008). For the past fifteen years, Batts has taken the DIY mantra to heart, documenting a variety of sophisticated sub-cultures in music, lifestyle and art. He has taken on the titles of painter, stylist, make-up artist and set designer while simultaneously honing his artistic sensibilities into a balanced mosaic of high fashion and photo-collages that encompass his entire vision. Batts has directed music videos for Swarm of the Locust and Pig Destroyer, and has been the curator for photography and street art exhibits by the likes of Mike GIANT, Rich Colman, AXIS, George Pitts, Alva Bernadine, Chris Haston and Andres Serrano.

He has contributed to the following magazines: Swindle, WARP (Japan), Vibe, Maxim, URB, WYWS, Garage (Italy).
