[edit] BIO
Carlos Aveline started his training in 1991 with Walter Mattos & Mario Sperry. Walter & Sperry were both helicopter pilots and both trained at Carlson Gracie School ARREBENTACAO (meaning destruction in portuguese). Walter was a black belt and Sperry only a purple belt at the time. Walter approached Sperry, and talked about opening up a school in Porto Alegre. Carlos Aveline was their first student.
Carlos left Brazil in 1995 to open a BJJ school in San Diego, California as a Brown Belt.
He competed a few times here in America and won the Joe Moreira Tournament, the only tournament around in the early days. About two years later his family was having some issues in Brazil so he had to return and his Visa was running out. So the school was left to Odie Neto, his only black belt.
Carlos never returned to America due to immigration issues. So upon his return to Brazil he opened his own MMA/ Weight gym school, where he started training for Vale Tudo. He also competed in the Jiu Jitsu worlds a few times but never placed, he lost to Jorge "Macaco" Patino.
Carlos Aveline had 11 Vale Tudo Fights and never lost in Vale Tudo 11 - 0 He was Porto Algre Jiu Jitsu State Champion in 1992 and 1993 in the Peso Pena weight class (feather weight)
