Carlitos (full name Carlos Alberto Alves Garcia)[1] (born September 6, 1982 in Lisbon) is a Portuguese football winger currently playing in Switzerland at FC Basel.

[edit] Football career

Carlitos started his professional career at Amora in the early age of 17. Two years later he moved to Estoril-Praia, where he helped the team achieve its promotion to the Portuguese Liga and caught the eye of the country's biggest team due to his strong dribbling skills and speed. In 2004, Carlitos signed with the giants SL Benfica after playing the European Championship Under 21 in Germany with Portugal. He helped Benfica conquer its first league title in 11 years. Nevertheless, he was not able to show the skills that made him one of Estoril's key players, playing very few matches as a result. He was loaned to Vitória de Setúbal in 2005-2006, returned to Benfica, but was loaned again, this time around to the Swiss FC Sion in 2006-2007.

In July 2007, Carlitos was sold to Sion's rivals FC Basel for a sum of €1.5 million[1].

Carlitos scored FC Basel's 200th goal in European competition on 5th December 2007, curling the ball into the back of the net from a free kick against SK Brann at St. Jakob-Park which also made it so Basel can move on the knock-out round of 32.
