[edit] History

The station opened on 20 August 1896 as Pennant Hills. On 1 August 1901 it was renamed Carlingford.

[edit] Platform/Service

The Carlingford line is almost completely single-track and services are infrequent. This being the case, and because Carlingford is the terminus of the line, the station has one platform for all services. Unlike most other stations on the Cityrail network, Carlingford station can only accommodate 4-carriage trains due to limited power supply on the line.

Platform 1 - Carlingford Line - all stations services to Clyde.

Students from the school James Ruse Agricultural High School take this train from Clyde Station to reach their school as being a selective school, many of them may be from areas out of the vicinity.

There is currently only one service in the early morning which connects to the city directly. For most times, a train-change at Clyde, the other terminus of the Line, is necessary to reach other stations.

[edit] Parramatta Rail Link

A major development of Carlingford station was proposed, as part of the Parramatta to Chatswood Rail Link project, but in 2003, this was postponed indefinitely by the New South Wales Transport Minister citing a lack of projected passenger numbers and economic viability. The existing station would have been demolished and a new underground station built instead, with two platforms to serve the upgraded line.

A large amount of land lies behind the station, for future extensions of the line. A redevelopment of the land next to the station was subsequently put on hold because of the postponement of the link.
