From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carl Schurz Park is a 14.9 acre (60,000 m²) public park in New York City, named for Carl Schurz in 1910, at the edge of Yorkville, reconstructed in 1935 by Robert Moses [1] it overlooks the waters of Hell Gate, and is the site of Gracie Mansion, the residence of the Mayor of New York since 1942 (although current mayor Michael Bloomberg does not live there). The park's waterfront promenade is a deck built over the FDR Drive, enclosing the roadway except on the side facing the East River. The park is bordered on the west by East End Avenue and on the south by Gracie Square, an extension of East 84th Street, between East End Avenue and the East River. The Manhattan Waterfront Greenway passes through the promenade platform.
