Carl Townsend Osburn (May 5, 1884December 28, 1966) was an United States Navy officer and sports shooter from Jacksontown, Ohio. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1906, Osburn went on to reach the rank of commander.[1] He competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics, the 1920 Summer Olympics and the 1924 Summer Olympics, and won a total of eleven olympic medals: five gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals.[2]. Together with Mark Spitz and Matt Biondi, his tally of eleven medals makes him the all-time leading male medal winner for the United States at the Olympic Games. .[3]

He was born in Jacksontown, Ohio and died in Saint Helena, California.
