[edit] European Seniors Tour career
After a spell working for the PGA European Tour organisation as a tournament referee he joined the European Seniors Tour on turning fifty. He was immediately successful as a senior, winning four of his first eleven events and topping the Order of Merit in 2003 and 2004. He was Order of Merit runner-up in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 became the top money earner ever on the European Seniors Tour after winning the European Senior Masters. The next week he won the PGA Seniors Championship. Six weeks later Mason was victorious again, this time at the Spanish Senior Open. By winning this event he brought his 2007 earnings total to €401,547. That amount is the new record for money won in a season. The previous record was also held by Mason when he won €354,775 in 2004. He is also ensured to win the Order of Merit crown for 2007.
