[edit] History

Carl-Ingemar Perstad started Trafikmagasinet in 1978. He hosted more than 300 shows and was the executive producer for more than 20 years. In 1987, Perstad received an award from the Royal Swedish Automobile Club for his contributions to enhance and improve the level of Swedish road safety. Perstad was twice nominated Motor Journalist of the Year by the Swedish Motor Journalist Association.

In February 2002, Carl-Ingemar Perstad was first fired for testdriving cars on his free time. All motorjournalist's in Sweden are testdriving cars on their free time, because they also have other obligations in their work. So when that didn't work out SVT started an investigation and discovered that he had embezzled money from the company. Due to his illness Perstad admitted to embezzling 82,743 SEK, by buying plane tickets for the company's money, then cancelling the trips and keeping the money on his travellingaccount, which he never used for anything else. In total he did this on 13 occasions. Perstad got a suspended sentence and 40 day-fines.[1]

Carl-Ingemar Perstad has not been subject of prosecution, has not been convicted in court; neither he has been imprisoned or arrested. In fall 2002 he accepted an order from prosecutor to pay a fine. The reason is that he disregarded some administrative job routines and was by an anonymous person reported to the police. The anonymous person was later confirmed as a former colleague from SVT. The company Swedish Television did never file any claim to the police.

Carl-Ingemar Perstad, was broken down by Trafikmagasinet - the popular TV-series he produced for more than 25 years. Now his burn-out syndrome has been classified as a job-related injury by two independent verdicts in two courts (November 2006 and July 2007) and the management for Swedish TV in Falun are under fire for bad management, causing this situation..

Mr. Perstad took great responsibility for his programs and he is in the verdict considered to be a hard working and reliable person. According to the court he was also wrestling with an unsympathetic management unable of realizing that the resources were insufficient.

A representative of Journalist's union in Sweden certified that Mr Perstad performed three person's assignments. Three person's were also needed and hired to replace him.

The safety controller confirmed that there was a lack of leadership and collaboration from the management, a management which did not react on the 1.485 overtime hours of Mr. Perstad.

The absolute majority of sick-listed due to burn-out at SVT (Swedish Television ) was to be found at SVT-Falun.

Also the Civil Service Department of Work Environment found in 2002 that the staff was so busy that none had time to report or discover shortcomings in work environment.

The Supreme Court /kammarrätten/ came to the same conclusion as the Country Court in Linköping and strongly criticize the conditions under which Mr Perstad had to produce his show.
