Carl Gangolf Kayser

Carl Gangolf Kayser (*February 12, 1837 in Vienna; † September 2, 1895) was Architect of Emperor Maximilian of Mexico

Carl Gangolf Kayser studied architecture in Vienna and Munich. He was a student of Friedrich von Schmidt and specialised in medieval and Gothic revival architecture. 1864 he was appointed court architect by emperor Maximilian of Mexico. After arriving in Mexico city he planned the reconstruction of Palacio Nacional and Chapultepec Castle.

After the end of the Mexican Empire 1867 he returned back to Austria. Here he reconstructed several medieval castles like Kreuzenstein, Hardegg or Liechtenstein Castle near Vienna.
