Carl-Göran Heden (b. in 1925) is a notable Swedish scholar in the fields of Microbiology, Biotechnology and microbial physiology, D.Sc., Professor of the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS). He is founder of the first Chair in biotechnology in Sweden. He was the first active chairman of UNEP/UNESCO/ICRO's Panel on Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, main initiator of UNESCO/UNEP's Microbiological Resource Centers (MIRCEN). Since 1976 he was the first director of MIRCEN-Stockholm. Professor Heden was also a President of the WAAS. He is now a Member of the Board of Trustees of this Academy.
