Carey Olsen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carey Olsen is the largest law firm in the Channel Islands with offices in Jersey and Guernsey with approximately 125 lawyers. It was created in 2003 by the merger of Jersey firm Olsens and Guernsey firm Carey Langlois.

It is the only law firm to be rated as tier 1 by both Legal 500[1][2] and Chambers[3][4] legal directories in both Jersey and Guernsey.

[edit] Strategic alliances

In January 2008 Carey Olsen announced a formal "best friends" relationship with Cayman Islands based firm, Maples and Calder ,[5][6] which in the press was presented as a response to a potential merger between Walkers and local competitors Mourant du Feu & Jeune. As a result of the relationship, Maples agreed to cease to practice Jersey law, and all of the firm's Jersey clients would be referred to Carey Olsen. In its press release Carey Olsen confirmed that it strategy was opposed to the practice of opening small offices in offshore jurisdictions that had previously been prevalent amongst multi-jurisdictional offshore law firms, representing the first significant move away from continuous expansion by multi-jurisdictional offshore law firms.
