Carelink is the Health Division of ioko and provides IT services to the UK health sector.
Carelink is largely known for its N3 hosting platform which provides 3rd party hosting of applications, data and websites. This was originally created in 1997 at the instigation of the NHS Information Authority to allow NHS Trusts to provide a web presence in an environment where many had NHSnet, but no web access. Today it is predominantly used to provide commercial entities to securely manage applications providing services into these NHS Trusts over N3 without the need for a dedicated N3 connection of their own. It is one of only 3 companies currently able to offer this service, along with BT and Cable and Wireless. Significant applications running on the platform include the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) website and the Agenda for Change Application.
In addition an N3 Aggregation service was introduced in 2007, allowing pass through connections to the N3 network in certain cases as well as providing connectiivty to the Spine applications.
Carelink also provides extensive infrastructure services to the private health sector, managing the networks and servers for over 40 hospitals as well as offering application development and other technical services. Carelink has a strong relationship with Microsoft in the UK, notably around SharePoint 2007. It also has an NHS specific content management system, NHS Core Site, built on EPiServer.
Carelink largely operates from ioko's York operations centre, with hosting based at IX Europre and Telehouse Docklands in London.
