The Cardinal-Infante Afonso (1509–1540, Portuguese pronounced [ɐˈfõsu]; English: Alphonzo) was a Portuguese infante son of King Manuel I of Portugal and his wife Maria of Aragon.
Afonso was born in Évora on April 23, 1509 and during his life was made Cardinal of the Kingdom after occupying several religious positions throughout the country.
He died on April 21, 1540, in Lisbon and was buried in the See of Lisbon before he was moved to the Jerónimos Monastery.
