Cardiac contractile dysfunction

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heart is a pump that receives de-oxygenated blood from the entire body, pumps it to the lungs for oxygenation and then pumps the oxygenated blood back to the organs and tissues for their metabolic needs. The heart itself needs oxygenated blood for its functioning, which is provided by the coronary arteries. This supply of blood to the heart may be compromised by blockage of the coronary arteries due to atherosclerosis.
