"Carcinogen Crush" is a song by the alternative rock band AFI that was recorded during the recording sessions of the 2003 album Sing the Sorrow. The basis of the track was written by Hunter Burgan. The band felt that it did not "fit" that album and did not include it in the track list.

The band decided to re-record the song during the recording sessions of their 2006 release, Decemberunderground. However, the song again did not make the album and remained unreleased until 2007. The version currently available is the latter.

[edit] Bonus Guitar Hero track

Just prior to the release of the 2007 video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Interscope announced the release of an Xbox 360 exclusive three song companion pack available for download on Xbox Live with the purchase of the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Soundtrack CD.[1][2] Carcinogen Crush is one of the songs. The purchase of the soundtrack is necessary because included with the CD is a unique code that can not be used more than once, which enables you to download the content.[3]

[edit] Release

After the song was downloaded by those who purchased the soundtrack, videos and soundclips, mostly of bad quality were put on websites such as YouTube. AFI released a 90-second preview through the Despair Faction shortly after. Two weeks after that, the 90-second preview was put on their official website and well as on their official MySpace page.

On November 30, 2007 it was announced on the official AFI website that the full song is available to purchase on an exclusive website, via their website, and that it would be available to purchase at all other digital music retailers on December 4, 2007.

It was confirmed by the band themselves through various interviews and blogs in late 2007 that this song will be featured on an upcoming EP. A fansite stated the scheduled release was for December, but the band pointed out that a December release was never planned and that this information was false. They also stated that the EP was to be released in early 2008, but just recently record stores have updated their databases with an EP of which the title is still to be announced, but already confirmed for release on June 24, 2008.
