Cara Walker is a fictional character in the book series, Sweet Valley High.
[edit] Character
Cara was Jessica Wakefield's best friend, a beautiful junior with an olive complexion. When the series began, Cara was on probation from the cheerleading squad for turning on the sprinklers during a rival squad's display; she tried out after her probation ended and was accepted back.
Originally, Cara was shallow and prone to gossiping. She had a huge crush on Steven Wakefield who wasn't interested in her, as he thought she was spoiled.
When Cara's parents divorced, her father and her brother Charlie moved to Chicago. The pain of the divorce and the move softened and helped to mature her. She was close to her mother, who sometimes called her 'Cara mia'.
After the divorce, she ran into Steven, who helped her to change a tire on the freeway. Steven found Cara changed and realized that he liked her. The two began dating. The change in Cara's nature also impressed Elizabeth Wakefield enough to become friends with her. In fact, Elizabeth and Cara become so close, that they often talk about Steven's good qualities.
Cara and Steven's relationship survived the disapproval of Steven's ex-girlfriend's sister, their constant separations, and attempted sabotage by Jessica, who thought her friend's relationship had knocked the spark out of her. When Cara's mother received a job offer in London, Steven proposed to Cara. They were set to marry at a Nevada chapel but decided at the last minute that they were doing it for the wrong reasons. Cara ended up moving to London with her mother.
