[edit] Whaling Ships

I saw you on the ships project page. I'm looking for data on ships named Phoenix, and their relation to the discovery of the Phoenix Islands. Can you help?Pustelnik 11:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NGC 2812 and Theta Pictoris

I see that you have created pages on NGC 2812 and Theta Pictoris. Out of curiosity, why did you create these pages? As a professional astronomer, I have a difficult time finding even basic references on NGC 2812. I also do not understand what is special about Theta Pictoris. Are these objects somehow important in a way that I do not understand? Also, would you like information on formatting the pages? George J. Bendo 18:39, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Both were mentioned, in a roundabout way, in Star Trek -- CaptainMike 17:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
I thought as much. I can just imagine the dialog...
Spock: We have arrived in NGC 2812, Captain. Scanners indicate nothing of interest in this galaxy.
Kirk: Could someone remind me why we are here?
Sulu: It's my fault, sir. I sneezed when entering the coordinates for NGC 2841.
Kirk: Well then, plot a new course for our original destination.
Sulu: Aye, Captain.
I am still wondering how NGC 2812 ended up in a Star Trek episode; it's a distant, unnotable galaxy, and I had the impression that the Enterprise rarely left the Milky Way. Anyhow, would you like help with formatting the articles or information on useful scientific references (not that many references exist for NGC 2812)? You may also be interested in the star systems in fiction page, although I do not know of an equivalent page for galaxies. (You do understand the difference between stars and galaxies, don't you?) I apparently took too long to respond to your request. You did a good job with applying the template, but you need to use references. I have revised the NGC 2812 entry with referenced information from the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database. You should reference your information as often as possible. Good luck with the Theta Pictoris article. George J. Bendo 08:38, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

You may be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Astronomical objects/Infoboxes, which has information on the templates used to create infoboxes. You will need to page down to find the infobox templates for stars. George J. Bendo 13:34, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on NGC 2812, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [edit] T-2 Tankers

I noticed that you did a lot of work on the T-2 tanker pages that I started. Do you by chance have any more info for the Sacketts Harbor? That was my grandfather's ship and it's how I got started listing info.

Hi Brian!
I haven't heard of the ship but I've been expanding my database here .. I'll see what I can dig up. -- CaptainMike 16:39, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
