[edit] City of Heroes/Villains OCs
Please take this as constructive criticism. Overall I think you are a great asset to the CoH and CoV portion of this site, and do not want to drive you away, or any such.
That say, I think that the page you just created, City of Heroes/Villains OCs, is a very, very big mistake. I can predict that it will get tossed to AFD fairly quickly, and rightly so. There are a couple of things wrong with the page.
1) The shash. Slashes can cause confusion on certain system, and can cause people to think that the article is a sub-page. Since we do not actually handle sub-pages via slashes, this is unnecessary confusion. This problem could be solved by renaming the article. However, the next one is the killer.
2) The article plays to the vanity of Wikipedia users. There are huge discussions around about the viability of User Boxes, since WP is supposed to be about the project, not the user/editors. And these are arguments about what should go on in the User space. A page asking users to show off their characters in the article space is not going to fly.
3) The article is totally non-encyclopedic. An article for showing off user characters really has no place in an encyclopedia, which in the end is what WP is intended to be.
I don't know if I will end up putting it up for deletion, or if someone else will beat me to it, but I expect it will go up for deletion one way or another fairly soon. I wanted to give you a head's up/warning and give you my full reasoning before that happened. - TexasAndroid 21:29, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. There are generally two ways to get an article deleted. AFD and Speedy delete. AFD has to wait 7 days. But, because you are the article creator and are wanting to have your own article deleted, and there are no significant edits by other people, I beleive that it qualifies for Speedy. Speedy deletions only have to wait until a admin gets around to checking them out to see if they do indeed qualify. The allowed reasons for fairly narrow, but your situation qualifies under Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, general criteria #7.
- To request this deletion, simply edit the page and place {{db-g7}} at the top. This will list it for speedy. The template above is short for: Delete Because of General rule #7. I will place links on the talk pages to our discussion, to show the deleting admin why it is being requested for delete, but you should place the template yourself, since the core of this criteria is that you are requesting your own page be deleted. - TexasAndroid 21:56, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. You just committed another newbie error. Blanking pages, even your own, is never the right way to handle things. Blank pages serve no useful purpose. WP has ways to remove bad content, AFD & Speedy, and neither involve blanking the pages. While I know you are not vandalizing, it is a common tactic of page vandals on WP. So, overall, it's not the right way to go about things. Place the Speedy template on the page, and let an admin judge the page for himself. Generally happens within a few hours, 1 day at most, depending on how much backlog there is on speedy deletions.
- And please don't think I'm in the slightest annoyed or upset over any of this. You are new, and are still learning the ropes around here. Take this whole episode as a learning experience for how to handle and not handle things in the future, and you will have learned a lot today about how to function here on WP. - TexasAndroid 22:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CoH copyright text and images.
Yeah. He updated the a number of sections with text taken straight from the CoH web page, and zone screen shots. The text had to go, period. The screen-shots might be salvagable, under fair use, but Goldenboy did none of the work to properly tag the images to allow them to be used as fair use images. Plus there are limits to how much can be used as "Fair Use". We have a single in-game screen shot on the main page, and that is almost certainly OK. But a shot of every zone may be really pushing the limits. And if it's across the limits, where between one and all does that limit fall? I don't know. So in general, because the two were all intertwined in his edits, I just reversed the whole thing.
Do you know how to see older edits? To see what was changed be each edit? It's easy enough to do. I can tell you how if you do not know, and then next time you can go peek at the edits themselves for this type of imformation. - TexasAndroid 14:49, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Manticore's CoH CCG card
This is the card used in the City of Heroes Collectible Card Game for Manticore. It states that he is a TA/Archery Defender [1]. Ryulong 03:59, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- And here is a post by Manticore himself, stating the same [2] (damn that's a big url). Ryulong 04:01, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. Ryulong 04:14, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
