[edit] This is innaccurate...

the first ever caps game was played much earlier and did not originate on the left coast in 1992 as indicated...this game was played widely in Lancaster County, Virginia when we were entering the scene in the mid 80's...we have continued the rich "Caps" tradition ever since...spreading the tradition and heritage of the game with every opportunity...

as with all "web" related materials...the information is only as good as the person providing it...check the facts...

school pride is no substitute for accuracy of information

[edit] Indeed innaccurate!

Not only was this game brought to Lancaster County, Virginia the fall of 1985, it was soon after copyrighted and the "Caps" name trademarked in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Although the many rules have been detailed in writing many times, the game is yet to be taken to market.

Why don't -YOU- bring it to market so the copyrighters can swoop in and command your earnings?!

BTW, variations have ranged from Tupperware bowls and juice caps to having to throw the caps through a moving ceiling fan.

[edit] Continued innaccuracies

I don't believe a true beginning to caps will every be verified, but what I do know is that caps has been on Occidental College's campus for many years. There are references, and indeed photography of caps being played while my professor was a student there. Since he graduated in 1983, this puts caps' history even further back. (D. Simonson, Occidental College)

The Northwestern rules are being randomly changed by various frats. The current rules are very consitent with most Northwestern caps games.
