This photo, taken from the Chicago Daily News collection [1] and cropped for aesthetic reasons, shows Opening Day at West Side Park in Chicago, Illinois, on April 22, 1908. Retired 19th Century Chicago Cubs superstar Cap Anson is on the mound, delivering the traditional ceremonial "first ball" of the season. In 1908, the Cubs would go on to win the second (and most recent, as of 2007) World Series championship.
