Captive Animals Protection Society

The Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS) is a Manchester-based charity which aims to end the use of animals in the entertainment industry and to abolish the captivity of animals in zoos. It was formed in 1957 by Irene Heaton. It has been responsible for many protests [1][2][3] [4], undercover investigations [5] and also established the National Zoo Awareness Day.
In 2004, CAPS founded a new educational charity, The Captive Animals Protection Trust (CAPT), which provides educational material for schools and students.
Three of the organisation's directors have been given awards for their work by the RSPCA.
