Captain Tsubasa (known as Tecmo Cup Soccer Game in North America) is a video game released on the Famicom in 1988 by Tecmo and is based on the anime series of the same name. The first of many games based on the series, which have appeared on many systems including the Famicom, Super Famicom, Mega-CD and PlayStation.
Created a genre of games known as "Cinematic Soccer".[citation needed] This means that rather than having direct control over the action like a standard soccer sim; the game has a cinematic angle with the player having to choose his actions from a timed list and the results of these actions are animated on screen.
The game was translated and bootlegged into Arabic as "Captain Majid" since the show was extremely successful in the Arab world.[citation needed]
