The New York offices of ITC Entertainment decided to create a new film for TV based on the original series episode "Attack on Cloudbase". This episode was expanded with material from the episodes "The Mysterons", "Winged Assassin" and "Seek and Destroy"[1], with the addition of then state-of-the-art effects and a new synthesized music bed.

  • Additionally, an American-accented actor was used to provide extra Mysteron voices.
  • The changes to "Attack on Cloudbase" to produce the film fundamentally altered the nature and plot of that episode and created confusion in the mind of some viewers as to the nature of the entire series.
  • The resulting film was neither a critical nor commercial success and was disliked by series creator Gerry Anderson, who was not consulted on the new production.
  • The most jarring change--possibly intended to create sympathy for the Mysterons--was when the producers played the entire Mysteron attack (and their shooting down Cloudbase) in reverse.
    • The following voice-over is heard during this turn of events: "THIS IS THE VOICE OF THE MYSTERONS. WE KNOW YOU CAN HEAR US, EARTHMEN. THE POWERS OF THE MYSTERONS ARE INFINITE. WE CAN DISTORT SPACE AND TIME. IN A MOMENT OF TIME, WE HAVE SHOWN YOU THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR PRIMITIVE AND AGGRESSIVE INSTINCTS. IT HAS BEEN DECIDED BY OUR IMPERIAL COUNCIL THAT PEACEFUL RELATIONS WITH THE PLANET EARTH MIGHT BE ULTIMATELY POSSIBLE, SO WE WILL SPARE YOU. BE WARNED, EARTHMEN, YOUR WARLIKE BEHAVIOR CAN ONLY RESULT IN CATASTROPHE FOR THE WORLD YOU LIVE ON. ONE DAY, THE MYSTERONS WILL RETURN. WE HOPE YOU WILL BE READY. SOMEDAY..." We then dissolve back to Symphony Angel in the desert, having been found alive by Captain Blue. Cloudbase is intact.
