Capcom Fighting All-Stars was a 3D fighting game planned for the arcade and PlayStation 2 that was to be developed by Capcom. Like KOF: Maximum Impact, it was designed to translate a 2D fighting game series into 3D. This was done previously in the Street Fighter EX series, by Arika, but not directly by Capcom. Capcom Fighting All-Stars attempted to utilize modern console graphics with characters from Street Fighter and other Capcom series, much like the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Capcom beta-tested the game, but after negative feedback from players and more months in development, the game was canceled in August 2003.

[edit] Gameplay
The controls for this game were slightly different compared to previous Capcom fighters. There were only two punch and kicks buttons, as well as a fifth button that did a "wrap around" technique. Wrap around was in many ways akin to the roll technique seen in games like Capcom vs. SNK, but had more attack options. Pressing two punch buttons would do a quick side attack, two weak buttons a throw, and two strong buttons a hardblow attack that would knock the opponent into the air. The game also borrowed parries from the Street Fighter III series.
The life system was 3-tiered: as you lost one tier, a break moment would occur and then the fight would resume, much like the life system in Darkstalkers 3. However the life system was also linked to the power bar: for each tier lost, a character gained an additional maximum level of usable super power (at full life, you'd only have one super power available). Super arts were handled in 3 tiers, each super costing one, two, or three levels to use them.
Many parts of the system were later used in Capcom Fighting Evolution for Ingrid's gameplay (see Legacy, below).

While the game never received an official release, the idea of Capcom's own characters in a crossover game would be instead used in a 2D fighting game, Capcom Fighting Evolution, released in 2005. One of the original characters slated to debut in All-Stars, Ingrid, would appear in Evolution and later on in the PSP port of Street Fighter Alpha 3.
