[edit] Speedy deletion
I contest the speedy deletion of this article for three reasons:
- This festival is notable: it has featured notable bands such as Benediction, Skinless and Belphegor, and it is now in its fourth edition. Many of the bands that played at the festival are non-notable, but that doesn't make the festival itself non-notable. Furthermore, the festival has been sponsored by the notable American record label Relapse Records and the foremost Portuguese metal magazines: Loud!, Underworld, Hypertensão, Elegy, Blast! and Metal Heart.
- This article can't be deleted under CSD A7 because that criterion covers only people, groups, bands, companies, clubs and web content. This is a music festival, so a speedy deletion would be out of process, and I would take it to deletion review.
- Even ignoring #2, this article claims notability: "it has since evolved to become a full-fledged international festival."
Why don't you nominate it for deletion instead? If the community feels that it is not notable, I will accept the deletion. Mushroom (Talk) 02:19, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- I removed the speedy delete tages, but point #2 above is silly. WP:CSD applies to anything, even music festivals. It cites examples, but if an article about a music festival doesn't claim notability (ie, "This is a yearly concert I have in my backyard where my neighbors play folk songs") then it can be deleted under A7. This article, as you noted, DID assert notability, hence the removal of the tag, but please understand what CSD a7 means for future articles. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 14:42, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for removing the tag. Point #2 is not silly: it's true that WP:CSD applies to anything, but CSD A7 doesn't. Quote:
- 7. No indication of importance/significance. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, organisation, or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. If controversial, list the article at Articles for deletion instead.
- Extensions of A7 have been proposed countless times (just have a look at the Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion archives), however very few of them have been accepted (the latest being companies, organisations and web content). I vaguely remember proposing the company extension myself, more than a year ago. Back then, articles about companies could not be deleted under A7. My proposal was opposed by most commenters, but luckily someone else made the same proposal later and it was accepted. Music festivals, however, are not covered by CSD A7. If you don't believe it, just ask at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion. Mushroom (Talk) 15:02, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

- P.S. It is also listed at WP:CSD in the non-criteria section:
- Failure to assert importance but not an A7 category. There is no consensus to speedily delete articles of types not specifically listed in A7 under that criterion.
