[edit] Hán Tự
Need Hán Tự for this province name. Chinese and Japanese Wikipedia give 高平, but the second character seems wrong, because it's rendered as "Bình" in so many other province names. Badagnani 01:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to me quite feasible that the character could be rendered Bình most frequently but Bang in the case of this province where the majority of the population is ethnic-minority. Itsmejudith 00:15, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
That's confusing! ;) Do you happen to have a really good, thick Vietnamese dictionary that has etymologies? A lot of the Sino-Vietnamese etymologies have become shrouded in history, and, at least as it seems to me, a lot of the southern provinces have non-Viet and non-Sino-Viet names, some of which may be ascribed (false) Sino-Vietnamese etymologies when they originally had none, being originally from either Khmer, or Cham, or other minority/former majority languages. Does this page help? Badagnani 00:20, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
The Nom Foundation gives 髙平. The first character seems to be a strange variant; can anyone explain this? Badagnani (talk) 05:59, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
