[edit] Quasi-official vs fanfic
Someone changed the word "quasi-offical" in the lead paragraph to "fan fiction and personal". This is not accurate. Yes, the site hosts fan fiction, but the content that that sentence is referring to is not fan fiction. It is, instead, in that grey area between Erik Mona (editor of the official magazines for Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons products, Dragon and Dungeon) and Wizards of the Coast in terms of official material. The article being cited is written by the editor of Shackled City, Maure Castle, and one of the co-authors of the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, not a mere fan. It is therefore arguably canon in the World of Greyhawk setting. -Harmil 12:54, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Perfectly understandable -- I see now how my original edit could have been misconstrued. I meant to indicate that the site has a lot of fan fiction, not to denigrate Mona's contributions or anything like that. And I certainly don't want to get into a discussion of whether contributions from Mona or anyone else on Canonfire! are Greyhawk canon or not (that whole topic is a big can of worms). But I do somehow want to make the point in the article about fan fiction. The current wording is "ranging from simple indexes of previously published game content to quasi-official missives from authors associated with the setting". What about this instead: "ranging from simple indexes of previously published game content to fan fiction and quasi-official missives from authors associated with the setting". The key word there is "and" which I think would indicate that the fan fiction and quasi-official missives are *both* part of the site. Would that work for you? If not, do you see another way to work in the point about fan fiction? Fairsing 18:27, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
