[edit] National Dog Breed?
The article starts with saying that the Canaan Dog is the national dog of Israel. Is it? Is there such a thing as a national dog? Officially? If it really is the official dog of Israel, how did it become so, and do any other nations have a national dog? --Dumbo1 23:04, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
They are considered to be the National Dog of Israel because the were bred by Dr. Menzel specifically to serve as guard and messenger dogs for the Israeli army. Israel was the only place, for many years where there was a defined breeding program to refine the breed and standardize the dog as the dog of the country. This dog became a recognized breed after selecting dogs of collie type of pariah dogs living semi-wild in the Middle East, unlike other breeds such as the Kangal Dog, which was never selected or named.SZAgassi 17:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Now my question: given that there is quite a bit more information posted on the page regarding the antiquity of the Canaan dogs origins (with referencws) can we remove the citation requirement posted a while ago? SZAgassi 17:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Project Judaism?
Why is this article part of Project Judaism? Judaism is a religion. What has a dog got to do with it? --Dumbo1 23:05, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] pictures
All the pics are of the tan variety of canaan dog, doesn't anyone have a pic of the black and white kind to balance it out?71.146.100.1 (talk) 05:16, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
