Canton Middle School is one of eight middle schools in the Elgin Area School District U-46. It is one of two middle schools in Streamwood, Illinois, along with Tefft Middle School. Canton Middle School currently has an enrollment of 965 students with 59 full-time teachers.

The faculty of Canton Middle School believes its mission is to provide our students with a learning environment and a wide variety of classroom and extra-curricular experiences which will enable them to:

  • develop their academic potential to the fullest;
  • develop organizational skills and self-discipline;
  • incorporate the values of honesty, respect, and responsibility in order to become productive citizens.

Canton Middle School is led by Principal James Hawkins, Ed.D. A native of Elgin, IL, Dr. Hawkins has performed in a variety of roles, from art teacher to school social worker to principal in his twenty-nine years in education.

Aiding Dr. Hawkins in the administration of Canton Middle School after Dr.Larsen transferred is New Assistant Principal Mrs.Contras Allen, who is a mini devil.

[edit] Curriculum and Instruction

Canton Middle School utilizes a team-based approach to education. Each team of students has the same group of teachers, allowing the teachers to collaborate with each other in order to coordinate an educational strategy for each student. Currently, there are two 7th grade teams, two 8th grade teams, one team which is a combination of 7th grade and 8th grade, and a two teacher team.

Canton Middle School's mascot is a cougar who's name is Cosmo. Their colors are blue and white.
