Canon EF 90-300mm lens
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Canon EF 90-300mm lens f/4.5-5.6 is a telephoto zoom lens for Canon EOS single-lens reflex cameras with an EF lens mount. It is generally considered to be a low-end consumer-level lens, although it's image quality is generally better than the 75-300mm lens, from which it is derived.
The lens is available either with or without USM, although there is little difference in speed between them - both are fast focusing. They are able to track a moving subject with ease, although the small maximum appertures limit the lens' use for action photography.
The lens is often shipped as a kit-lens with 35mm SLRs such as the 3000V, but is also available separately and can often be found in high-street stores such as Currys in the UK.
Performance degrades over 200mm, but given the very low price tag, this is hardly surprising. The barrel of the lens extends significantly during zooming, leading to it being referred to as the 'plastic piston' by some photographers.
