Canned responses are predetermined responses to common questions, frequently used in text based environments. They may be triggered by a single keystroke, such as a function key, or by some combination of keys. Some programs have built-in functions which allow canned responses, and other software is available which can insert canned responses into any other application.
In fields such as text-based technical support, canned responses to frequently asked questions may be quick and convenient for both the customer and the technical advisor. However, canned responses to customer complaints may make the customer even more dissatisfied.
